Clutter’d ‘Ships (April 2011)

This quartet, my first real dance design, was for me largely a study in color and texture. Cat Miller’s choreography dealt with the relationships between the dancers, which covered long distances in the course of the four minute piece. We were searching for an expansive feeling and a strong, simple way of communicating these relationships with pedestrian clothing that the dancers were comfortable in. The design evolved organically from our search for textures and colors that related to each other in a way we found wordlessly appealing. Heather Pynne‘s lighting design aided greatly in softening and expanding this universe.
